I am not happy with the Midas shop at 10 mile/Telegraph, Southfield, MI because they have been dishonest with us, which has cost us over $3,000 dollars. I am asking for you to right this wrong, correct this horrible experience at Midas, which is the only way I would even consider going to another Midas - ever. Our experience is the complete opposite of a customer-centric organization, and I plan to tell everyone I know not to take their car to Midas.

It started on (Date Here) when our 2001 Ford Taurus car engine started smoking and smelling. We drove it straight to Midas at 10mile/Telegraph, which is close to our house, for a diagnosis of the problem. We have been taking our cars here for two years. I received a call in the afternoon from the manager Jay that the engine had blown and we needed a new car. And by the way, they have a customer who is trying to sell their 2000 Ford Taurus and they recommend that we take a look at it. They vouched for its condition, and told us it was a great deal. The Midas Manager said they had done several oil changes and even drove the car, so they were confident it was a good car to buy.

Midas has a good reputation, so we trusted our local shopโ€™s promises, which was a big mistake.

We looked at the vehicle, turning the car on and sitting in it. The car needed a few parts, which the manager, Jay, assured us he would pull from our 2001 Ford Taurus. This included replacing the air conditioner that did not work in the 2000 Ford Taurus, along with installing struts that was also pulled from the 2001 Ford Taurus for $500.

We agreed to purchase the car for $2,500, knowing that we could repair the air conditioner and struts at a reasonable price. This seemed like a fair price for a car with 150K miles on it.

Wednesday, XYZ date we met the seller at the Secretary of Stateโ€™s office and they signed over the Title. The 2000 Taurus was still at Midas because they were going to work on the promised repairs. The next day, XYZ, we drove our 2001 Taurus back to Midas for Jay to take out the air conditioner and the struts for the 2000 Taurus.

My husband found Jay (manager) and Kevin (mechanic) packing up their personal items because they quit. The shop was closed! We had no choice but to bring both cars back to our house.

So, we took the two cars to Halโ€™s Auto (address) which comes highly recommended by a couple of people I know. We asked them to perform the repairs that Midas was going to do.

Imagine my frustration when they looked at our 2001 Ford Taurus and said the engine was not blown, but that it only needed coolant. The pipes had rusted and were causing the coolant to spray on the engine, which caused the smell and smoke (aka steam). The fix was only $610. I am convinced that Midas purposefully told us incorrect information in order to for us to buy the other car โ€“ it was a scam!!

By now this Midas shop had reopened under with new management (but the same owner), so for obvious reasons, my husband talked to the new manager asking for our money back, showing him the estimate for simply fixing the air conditioner. The new manager said no, but generously offered to fix the air conditioner in our current car if we paid $40 for the part. Really?? I am stuck with a car that needs a new air conditioner and struts because Midas lied to us about our current car repairs, and I now also have to pay for fixing the original problem in our current car!

Eventually, the new Manager, Joe, allowed us to put the 2000 Ford on their lot to sell the car, which would give us more visibility. We were hopeful that this would help us sell a car that Midas tricked us into buying. We did not want to lose $3000 dollars, so we agreed.

Rubbing salt in an already festering wound, XYZ days later the manager, Joe, refused to fix our air conditioner. The owner said the fix was too complicated for them to do. This was another promise broken with Midas. My frustration level increased and I was now ready to take this issue to Midas Corporate and on to social media,.

Now that we knew Midas cannot be trusted, we took the 2000 Ford Taurus to get a second opinion on its condition to make sure we are being truthful when we sell the car to a potential customers. Their diagnosis is it is unsafe to drive and it would cost $1400 to fix the car in order to sell it. Recommendation - dump it. (See attached diagnosis)
